Mindfulness in Medicine

Arvey and Scott Rogers

Arvey and Scott Rogers, father and son, collaborate to explore and share the art and science of mindfulness, as it relates to the life and practice of today’s physician.

Arvey Rogers, M.D., FACP, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Assistant Dean of Continuing Medical Education.  He joined the faculty in 1962 and served as chief of the Division of Gastroenterology from 1994 until 2001 when he retired in order to spend more time with his wife, Susan, who had been diagnosed with a recurrence of breast cancer.  She passed away in 2008 after which he rejoined the medical school to focus on medical education.  You can learn more about Arvey by clicking here.

Scott Rogers, M.S., J.D., is founder and director of the Institute for Mindfulness Studies.  He has practiced mindfulness and other contemplative practices for more than 18 years.  His concentration on mindfulness is rooted in his belief that it offers the most effective means of introducing a contemplative practice to physicians, medical students, attorneys and law students, and to encourage meaningful inner work and growth, both professionally and personally.   You can learn more about Scott by clicking here.

Scott and Arvey live in Miami, Florida.  Scott is married to Pam and together they have two children.  Arvey is remarried and living happily with his wife, Joan.
